The best work underground is the work you never see.
Utilities, conduit, and fibre installed beneath roads, sidewalks, driveways, and finished properties — with no open trench from end to end, and nothing on the surface to show it happened.
01 — The craft
Every successful bore starts long before the drill head enters the ground.
Accurate HDD is not drilling a hole underground. It is planning, judgment, equipment control, and the field experience to make the right call as ground conditions change. Before the shot begins, all of this has to be understood:
- 01Soil conditions
- 02Bore path design
- 03Entry & exit angles
- 04Depth
- 05Locating data
- 06Utility crossings
Once drilling starts, precision depends on constant communication between operator and locator, accurate reading interpretation, controlled steering, proper fluid management — and the ability to adjust without losing the path.
02 — The ground
It's crowded down there.
HDD happens in congested underground environments. Every one of these can be inside the work area — and every one of them must be treated with respect.
- Proper locating before anything moves
- Careful bore path planning around every crossing
- Controlled equipment operation, start to finish
- Discipline when conditions change mid-shot
03 — The Experience
5,000 shots. Where there was no room to miss.
Experience is what separates an average drilling company from a highly skilled HDD operator — and ours was built in real field conditions, not theory.
The majority of Rocko Drilling's work has been completed for SaskTel and other telecommunication companies: fibre optic installation through existing, dense urban residential areas where accuracy, control, and utility awareness are critical on every bore.
These are not open-field drill shots with wide margins for error. They run through tight utility corridors, around existing buried infrastructure, beneath sidewalks, driveways, streets, and service connections. In these environments, precision is not optional. It is the standard the job depends on.
With the right conditions, planning, and ground response, the drill head comes out within an inch of the planned exit point.
That level of accuracy is not luck. It reflects advanced steering ability, strong locating practices, and a deep understanding of how the drill head responds underground.
04 — The standard
What you'll never see on our worksites:
- Unnecessary excavation
- Avoidable damage
- Guesswork around buried hazards
- Rework because the shot missed the mark
Just clean entry and exit points, protected utilities, protected property — and a controlled installation completed safely, accurately, and properly the first time.
05 — The company
Precision horizontal directional drilling, built on experience.
Rocko Drilling specializes in urban residential directional drilling — one of the most controlled and technical methods of underground construction. Our HDD work is built around control.
We have completed thousands of successful bores, including difficult and technical drill shots around existing utilities, obstacles, and sensitive infrastructure.
Each project is approached with the same standard: protect the client's property, protect existing utilities, and complete the installation with minimal disruption.
Rocko Drilling brings more than equipment to the site. We bring field-tested skill, technical control, and the responsibility required to drill safely around critical underground infrastructure.
